Painters Pause - A Place Where Artists Linger

Elk Meadow and Bergen Peak

Painters Pause trail is a gravel path descending southward into a confluence with a watery gulch flowing out of Bergen Peak. The alluring mountain is an irresistible backdrop for the creatively inspired. With brushes and easel in tow, it's a place where artists linger.

It's a cold morning during a solitary sojourn through Noble and Elk meadows. The aspen are mere skeletons against the drab pine. Long, violet shadows rippling across the yellow field are an interesting note during an ordinary sunrise.

The wilderness is just now coming back to life. Elk have lost their winter coats and graze peacefully. Bluebirds are back but prefer to keep their distance. The familiar tune of the meadowlark is heard although the vocalist cannot be seen.

A relentless wind and everlasting light foretell a seasonal change. After a long, monochrome winter, patience is a virtue. Anxiously awaiting those shades of green, spring must be close. Not so fast my friend, it's supposed to snow tonight.

    Is that really the name of the trail, Painter's Pause? If so, the person who named it was quite romantic! Looks like you changed your header too.

      Yes, this very scenic trail is called Painter's Pause, probably the most popular hike in Evergreen. I updated my layout around the first of the year. I wanted it to be more customized but still simple.

The restored Dunafon Castle Lair O' the Bear Park is nestled in a steep canyon about six miles east of Evergreen, Colorado. John and Matilda Johnson emigrated from Sweden with their two young boys and purchased the narrow meadow in 1902. Clear Creek at Golden, Colorado On a gorgeous evening in Golden, Colorado, Clear Creek is undeniably liberated from winter's icy grasp. As the cold season draws to a close, we are challenged to emerge from our dark den. The Brook Forest Inn - Ghosts, Germans and Gold

The Brook Forest Inn is southwest of Evergreen It was the summer of 1943 near Evergreen, Colorado and the Brook Forest Inn was a luxury resort nestled in a stand of lodgepole pine at the base of Black Mountain. Carl was at work in the nearby livery stable when he learned that his wife, Jessica, had been unfaithful. Jessica also worked at the inn and she was preparing the Monte Carlo Room for that evening's guests. Carl stormed in, confronted her and a violent altercation ensued. Fueled by a jealous rage, Carl strangled Jessica to death. Overcome with guilt, Carl returned to the stable, constructed a rope noose and promptly hung himself. The stunning tragedy shocked the idyllic mountain community. A few years earlier, before the outbreak of World War II, a suspicious group of German tourists checked into the hotel.
